Yankees Lose 6-2 to Tigers, Extend Losing Streak to Seven Games

The New York Yankees lost to the Detroit Tigers 6-2 on Wednesday, extending their losing streak to seven games. ESPN reported that the defeat is the team's longest skid since Aug. 12-23, 2023. Detroit scored four runs in the 11th inning after Camilo Doval issued a bases-loaded walk to Spencer Torkelson.

Zach McKinstry followed with a two-run single and another run scored on a throwing error by catcher Ali Sánchez. The Yankees had rallied for two runs in the ninth on a home run by Amed Rosario and a wild pitch, but Anthony Volpe was caught stealing second and rookie Spencer Jones popped out to end the threat. New York is now 12-15 since losing Aaron Judge to a stress fracture in his right rib.

180 over 11 losses in 13 games. Detroit pitchers Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Troy Melton combined to allow two runs and four hits while striking out 26. Manager Aaron Boone said the week had been difficult.

"It's been a terrible week for us. There's no way of sugarcoating it and we're capable of way more obviously," Boone said. Second baseman Jazz Chisholm added that the team must "lock in" and reduce mistakes.

The Yankees committed 17 errors and allowed 23 unearned runs in their last 12 games. Ben Rice is in a 9-for-54 slump and Cody Bellinger has five hits in his last 46 at-bats, going 0 for 5 on Wednesday. Judge spoke before the game and said the team's focus was missing.

He is recovering from the rib injury, which has not yet been reevaluated.
