Yankees offense struggles as top hitter posts career-long RBI drought

The New York Yankees have lost 10 of their last 15 games as their primary run producer recorded no RBIs across an 11-game span. The hitter finished the stretch 10-for-56 with three extra-base hits and 21 strikeouts. After a hitless game on May 22, the same player recorded one hit in his most recent 23 at-bats while striking out 10 times.

Lineup performance since early May The bottom half of the order ranked 24th in OPS from the fifth through ninth spots and next-to-last among bottom-third hitters after May 8. Before that date the same group had ranked sixth in OPS overall and tenth from the seventh through ninth positions.

The offensive decline followed a May 8 game against Milwaukee in which the opposing starter threw five of the fastest pitches recorded by any starter since 2008. In the 13 games since, the team has scored six or more runs only three times.

Manager assessment after recent losses A spokesperson stated after the May 22 loss that the lineup had produced several well-struck balls despite the 2-0 defeat. The same spokesperson noted two batted balls by the top hitter that registered exit velocities of 111 mph and 106 mph.

The team currently sits 5½ games behind Tampa Bay in the division standings. Officials indicated that roster adjustments could occur if production from certain positions remains low.
