Yankees place catcher on injured list with cervical headaches
The team placed its catcher on the injured list Saturday after he reported neck stiffness and headaches. A replacement was recalled from Triple-A and further testing is scheduled for Sunday.

The catcher reported neck stiffness leading to a headache late Friday after the team had optioned another player. He underwent exams, including a concussion test with a neurologist on Saturday, and the test was negative. A manager said the complaint is new and further testing for the neck is planned for Sunday. The manager added that the stint on the injured list will hopefully be short.
Roster adjustments The team recalled a player from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace the catcher on the active roster. The recalled player had been optioned late Friday in favor of another catcher. The manager said the recalled player is expected to start Saturday against a left-handed pitcher and could provide a different look at the position.
Season-long performance Entering Saturday, the catcher on the injured list ranked 212th out of 217 players with at least 160 plate appearances in OPS. 527 OPS over the first 64 games. Only one other major-league team has recorded lower production from its catchers this season.
The manager said giving the team's best hitter additional time at catcher is not currently under consideration.
