Yankees Rookie Spencer Jones Records First MLB Hit on Mother's Day

In the third game of his career, the 24-year-old drove an RBI single to center field off Brewers pitcher Logan Henderson. The hit came in the second inning and scored José Caballero from second base, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead. The ball came off Jones' bat at 106.4 mph.

The Yankees secured it for safekeeping shortly afterward. Jones pulled a first-pitch slider from Henderson and drove it to center field. His mother and other family members were seated next to the Yankees' dugout, where they had watched all weekend, including his major league debut on Friday night.

Photographs showed Jones' mother, wearing a green jacket, and other family members reacting as the hit landed. The moment occurred on Mother's Day. Jones had gone 0-for-5 with four strikeouts and one walk in his first two games before Sunday. He started in right field while Aaron Judge served as the designated hitter. Jones turns 25 on Thursday.
