Yankees Send Outfielder Back to Triple-A After Infielder Returns
The Yankees optioned an outfield prospect to Triple-A following the activation of an injured infielder. Manager Aaron Boone described the roster move as a difficult decision.
nypost.comThe New York Yankees optioned outfielder Spencer Jones to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after activating infielder José Caballero from the injured list. Aaron Boone said the decision was partly based on the team facing several left-handed starters in upcoming games. Jones went 4-for-24 with no extra-base hits, three walks and 14 strikeouts during his time with the major-league club.
Boone stated that Jones had shown improvement in his final two games, including a 105-mph single and a deep fly ball. The manager added that the stint still provided useful experience despite limited offensive results. Trent Grisham returned to the lineup after missing time with left knee discomfort and recorded three hits in a recent game.
Grisham was thrown out at the plate attempting to score on a throw from right field.
The team will use Amed Rosario and Max Schuemann to fill the fourth-outfielder role while another player remains on the injured list with a shoulder injury. That player has started tee-and-toss work and could begin a rehabilitation assignment after the upcoming road trip.
Aaron Judge is in a nine-game stretch in which he is 5-for-58 with one extra-base hit. Boone said he has been impressed with Judge’s approach at the plate and emotional consistency during the stretch. Giancarlo Stanton is scheduled for a medical evaluation next week to determine when he can resume running after a calf injury.
