Yankees Shortstop Playing Time Shifts as Utility Player Takes More Starts

Caballero has received the bulk of playing time at shortstop. The manager described the situation as day-to-day while noting Caballero has started most games. Caballero made two defensive plays in Friday's loss. He ranged up the middle to rob a hit and later made a basket catch in shallow center field.

A 21-year-old prospect returned to action Friday at Triple-A and hit a home run. The manager said the organization is discussing how much the player must show before a possible promotion during the playoff race. The team has not announced plans to move Volpe to another position. Utility opportunities for Caballero have decreased since two injured players returned.
