Yemen’s presidency announced that former president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi died Thursday at his residence in Riyadh at age 80. State-run Yemeni television carried the report but gave no other details.

Hadi took office in 2012 after serving as vice president to Ali Abdullah Saleh. 8 percent of the vote. His eight-year tenure coincided with the outbreak of civil war and a Saudi-led military intervention. Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia in 2015 after Houthi forces placed him under house arrest and seized the capital Sanaa.
