New York Attorney Tests Positive for Cyclosporiasis After May Lunch

A New York attorney tested positive for cyclosporiasis after attending a May lunch linked to a national outbreak that has sickened thousands. Insider reported that Strangio first experienced symptoms on a Wednesday evening in late May 2026. He lost seven pounds during the illness.

Strangio attended a corporate lunch on May 13 that included chopped lettuce and cilantro from a ghost kitchen. Multiple attendees developed similar gastrointestinal symptoms. Strangio tested positive for cyclosporiasis via stool sample on June 4.

Symptoms had begun approximately 14 days earlier. Strangio was prescribed Bactrim, after which symptoms improved within two days. The U.S. cyclosporiasis outbreak has sickened thousands of people across the United States.

Lettuce has been identified as a potential source in the current outbreak. Cyclosporiasis is caused by a parasite transmitted through fecally contaminated food or water. The incubation period can last up to a few weeks before symptoms appear.
