New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated on X Tuesday that his administration had cleared a $12 billion budget deficit inherited in January. He attributed the balance to taxing the rich and increasing government efficiency, adding that the budget was not balanced on the backs of working people.
Fox News reported that the city received $1.5 billion from New York state in January and another $4 billion in late May under a multi-year bailout plan.
