New York City-based 1100 Architect designed a house in Wellesley, Massachusetts, that reinterprets traditional New England white clapboard architecture with interlocking white volumes faced in flush painted wood. The firm kept the building footprint compact to align with neighboring houses. It used a steel frame that removed interior columns and allowed floor-to-ceiling windows.

Flush-mounted fir boards held by clips replaced conventional clapboard siding. A driveway loops around the side yard and enters an underground garage, preserving views of the landscape. The open-plan layout spans four levels and includes four family rooms connected by a floating staircase. Retractable sliding doors allow spaces to open or close as needed.

Blue and fuchsia accents appear throughout the interior.

A double-island kitchen is lined with European walnut cabinetry. A glass bay wraps the stair landing, and a rooftop terrace includes an outdoor dining area and gas firepit. Interior design was completed by Ray Booth. Founding principal David Piscuskas said the design respects the material and architectural patterns of Wellesley while meeting the clients’ requirements.
