The win gave the Knicks the 2026 NBA championship, their first title since 1973. Jalen Brunson served as captain and led the Knicks back from a 29-point deficit in each of their four wins during the series.
The Knicks finished the 2026 postseason with a 16-3 record and a plus-263 point differential, the best margin of victory in NBA postseason history. Sandra Brunson flew commercial from Chicago to Austin, Texas, on June 13 to attend the game after missing her connecting flight the night before.
A pilot arrived late on her flight from Philadelphia, forcing her to drive from Austin to San Antonio on the afternoon of June 13.
Before the game, Sandra Brunson sent Jalen Brunson a text message with a Bible verse: "When you go through deep waters, I WILL BE WITH YOU. " She had chosen to fly commercial to attend an event for the Second Round Foundation, which took children from Harlem to Philadelphia around the same date.
Rick Brunson, Jalen Brunson's father and a Knicks assistant coach, was Leon Rose's first client as an agent in 1995.
