New York Liberty Forward Satou Sabally Ruled Out of Seattle Game After Entering Concussion Protocol

New York Liberty forward Satou Sabally entered concussion protocol on Thursday. She had been listed as questionable that morning but was ruled out by afternoon for the team's road game against the Seattle Storm. Sabally was elbowed in the face by Las Vegas Aces forward NaLyssa Smith while competing for a rebound with 5:31 left in the first quarter of Tuesday's 87-76 win.

The Liberty led 10-7 at the time. She was called for a loose ball foul, fell to the ground, removed her glasses and rubbed her head before rising under her own power. Liberty head coach Chris DeMarco said after the game that Sabally had been hit in the face and would be all right.

She was subbed out, returned to start the second quarter and played nearly four minutes, recording two rebounds and one block. Sabally did not return after halftime and finished scoreless in eight minutes with three rebounds and one assist. DeMarco initially stated on Tuesday that Sabally was not entering concussion protocol.

Her status changed after she exhibited symptoms by Thursday afternoon. Breanna Stewart was also sidelined for the Thursday game due to rest. Sabally suffered a concussion in Game 3 of the 2025 WNBA Finals while with the Phoenix Mercury.

That injury ended her season and caused her to miss the second season of Unrivaled. She signed with the Liberty in the offseason and has appeared in 13 games this year.
