New York Mayor Reviews City Authority on ICC Warrant for Netanyahu

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani ordered a review of whether city lawyers and police can enforce the International Criminal Court warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. ” He told The New York Times that city officials will act only within existing legal authority and will not create new rules targeting Netanyahu.

Mamdani inherited the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, which already coordinates with the NYPD, foreign missions, and U.N. officials on security and protocol during the General Assembly. The city hosts the world’s largest diplomatic corps and maintains ties with governments and international organizations.

The office traditionally handles consular matters and security logistics rather than foreign-policy initiatives.

Exit polls from Mamdani’s mayoral race showed roughly 60 percent of New York City voters ranked cost of living as the top issue.
