YouTube announced Wednesday that it will make existing labels disclosing AI-generated or altered content more prominent on videos. For videos longer than a minute, the label will appear directly below the player and above the description. On shorter clips, the disclosure will display as an overlay during playback.

The company already requires creators to label realistic AI content. It is adding automated tools to identify and apply labels to such material.

YouTube said the updates aim to balance transparency with creator control. A disclosure label will not change how a video is recommended or whether it can be monetized. Other platforms have introduced similar measures. In April, Spotify added a "Verified by Spotify" badge indicating whether a song was created with AI.

"If it looks real but was made with AI, viewers will know immediately," Rene Ritchie, a YouTube creator, said in a video describing the changes.
