Convenor Tendai Biti said lawmakers failed to conduct a secret ballot. He stated that the process was tainted by widespread inducements, with money and vehicles openly exchanged to influence the outcome. Biti said the bill is unnecessary and divisive.
He added that it has polarized the nation and does not reflect views expressed by many Zimbabweans during public consultations. Biti said that if the bill proceeds to a referendum, authorities must guarantee a free, fair and credible process. He stated that organizations such as FAZ and individuals who have openly campaigned for the bill should not be allowed to manipulate or dominate any referendum.
The forum is considering further action, including litigation, to challenge the bill.
