Zimbabwean Man Arrested in South Africa on UK Triple Murder Charges

South African police arrested a 45-year-old Zimbabwean man in a Johannesburg suburb on Saturday after he left the UK the previous day. The arrest ended a five-day international search involving authorities in the UK, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. The man, who also uses the name Mark, flew from London Heathrow to Dubai on July 4 and then onward to Johannesburg.

UK prosecutors have authorized three murder charges against him in connection with the deaths of his wife, 42, and their two daughters, aged 15 and 5, whose bodies were found at their home in Great Denham on July 7. "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised three charges of murder against Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma following the deaths of his wife and two daughters," said Emma Davies, Chief Crown Prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service.

South African Police Service National Spokesman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the arrest was made within hours with support from Interpol.

She stated that the operation demonstrated South Africa would not serve as a hiding place for fugitives. Bedfordshire Police said the suspect had travelled to Zimbabwe before entering South Africa. The force confirmed that work is under way to return him to the UK, where he will face further questioning.

South Africa and the UK maintain an extradition treaty. "This has been a fast-moving investigation which has involved multiple law enforcement partners, including the National Crime Agency, Interpol and authorities in both Zimbabwe and South Africa," said Detective Inspector Lee Martin of Bedfordshire Police. The suspect has been remanded in custody.
