Zverev defeats Fritz to reach Wimbledon semifinals

Alexander Zverev defeated Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on Wednesday. Fritz, the last American man remaining in the draw, received a medical timeout for treatment on his right knee during the second set. He said the knee began bothering him three games into the match.

Match details Zverev improved to 17-1 in major matches this year.

Fritz had won his previous seven matches against Zverev before the loss. The result extends the U.S. men's drought at major tournaments to 90 consecutive events without a champion.

Next opponent Zverev will face Arthur Fery in the semifinals on Friday.

Fery, a wild card, defeated the No. 9 seed in straight sets. Zverev said he was impressed by Fery's earlier performance and expects a strong atmosphere for the match.
