300-Million-Year-Old Baby Embolomere Fossils Show Direct Development Without External Gills
Palaeontologists examined two 2-centimetre baby embolomere fossils from the Mazon Creek site that preserved external yolk sacs but no external gills. The 307- to 309-million-year-old specimens indicate direct development from egg to adult form.
