Former Cargo Ship Captain Pleads Guilty to Sexually Abusing Merchant Marine Cadet
John Merrone, 53, admitted in Brooklyn federal court to drugging and sexually assaulting a 21-year-old U.S. Merchant Marine Academy cadet aboard the Liberty Glory in 2019. The plea came just before trial. Sentencing is set for December 22, 2026.
