15-Year-Old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Earns First India T20 Call-Up
The Rajasthan Royals opener scored 776 runs at a 237.30 strike rate in the 2026 IPL and helped India’s under-19 side win the World Cup. He joins the senior squad for two T20s against Ireland and a five-match series against England.
indiatoday.intoday.inIndia named 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in its senior T20 squad for upcoming matches against Ireland and England. The batsman collected the most valuable player award after scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30 for Rajasthan Royals during the 2026 Indian Premier League season.
Iyer will captain the side in both series, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, who has been dropped after leading India to the T20 World Cup title earlier this year. Yadav scored 242 runs in nine innings during the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have also been rested for the tour. An uncapped fast bowler, Prince Yadav, received his first call-up.
Sooryavanshi helped India’s under-19 team win the World Cup this year, scoring 175 in the final against England. A strong showing on the senior tour would make him India’s youngest male debutant, surpassing the previous record set by Sachin Tendulkar in 1989.
The five-match T20 series against England begins on 1 July. Sooryavanshi is in line for his international debut in Belfast, with India taking on Ireland in two T20s at Stormont on 26 and 28 June.
