19-Year-Old Wins French Open Women's Title

Mirra Andreeva, 19, defeated Maja Chwalinska in the French Open women's final on Saturday. She became the youngest winner at Roland Garros since Monica Seles in 1992. Andreeva is also the first Russian player to win the title since Maria Sharapova in 2014. She reached the third round at the French Open as a junior in 2023 and advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon that same year.

Path to the Title Andreeva said she set an early goal of winning multiple Grand Slam titles. She has credited her improved serve and court awareness for recent results. She began working with coach Conchita Martinez in April 2024. Martinez said Andreeva has shown openness to instruction and a strong work ethic.

Andreeva said the attention from media and fans has not been a major distraction. She added that she wanted to demonstrate a high level of play during the final.
