2026 Open Championship Prize Pool Rises to $17.75 Million

The R&A announced a total prize pool of $17.75 million for the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The winner will receive $3.2 million, an increase of $100,000 from the 2025 event. The pool itself is $750,000 larger than the 2025 tournament at Royal Portrush.

All players finishing in the top three will each receive more than $1.1 million, and any player placing in the top seven is guaranteed more than $500,000. Prize money is awarded only to professional players. A 70th-place finish pays $40,700.

If more than 70 players advance past the cut, the 71st-place finisher receives $40,575, with each subsequent place decreasing by $125 down to a minimum of $39,450. Professionals who finish in the top 10 places below the cut line each earn $12,900. The next 20 players below the cut receive $10,750 each, and all remaining professionals below the cut earn $9,100 each.

The R&A publishes all figures in U.S. dollars. Conversion rates used for the pound sterling amounts are correct as of 15 July 2026. Scottie Scheffler received around £2.3 million for winning the 2025 Open.
