2030 World Cup to Span Six Countries Across Three Continents

The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be staged across six countries and three continents, Al Jazeera reported. Spain, Portugal and Morocco will host the majority of matches while Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay each stage one opening-round game to mark the tournament's centenary.

Opening matches in Morocco, Portugal and Spain follow on June 13 and 14. The final is expected on July 21. Uruguay will host in recognition of staging the first World Cup in 1930. Argentina's match acknowledges its runner-up finish that year.

Paraguay hosts as the home of CONMEBOL, the only continental confederation existing in 1930. The six host nations have automatically qualified. The tournament will feature 48 teams. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the 48-team format will be examined for possible expansion to 64 teams after describing the current setup as a huge success.

The 2034 men's World Cup will be hosted by Saudi Arabia as a single-nation event, a decision confirmed by FIFA in December 2024. The first World Cup took place in July 1930 with 13 teams, when Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 in the final at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
