Fans at Pitbull’s BST Hyde Park headline show set the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing bald caps, with 22,141 participants confirmed after an attempt initiated by BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James and content creator Jack Remmington.
BBC News reported that fans gathered by the main stage ahead of the performance to be counted, many wearing suits, sunglasses and bald caps in the performer's signature style. The 45-year-old artist, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez, called the achievement a blessing and an honour.
He told reporters that he never expected a first-generation Cuban to break a Guinness record in London and thanked his fans, whom he referred to as the baldies, for their support. Fans at the event described feeling sweaty and bald yet amazing while standing in temperatures that reached 32C in London.
Pitbull performed hits including Fireball, Give Me Everything and Daddy Yankee's Gasolina, along with a mashup of club classics and the Oasis song Wonderwall. Kesha and Lil Jon joined him on stage for collaboration tracks, with Kesha also wearing a bald cap. The crowd reached a capacity of nearly 70,000, the largest BST Hyde Park has hosted.
Pitbull was born in Miami to Cuban parents and released his debut album M.I.A.M.I. in 2004. He has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide and won a Grammy for best Latin Rock or Alternative Album for his record Dale.
