Todd Blanche, serving as acting Attorney General, submitted a petition to a federal court shortly before midnight on April 27th. The filing sought to reverse an injunction blocking construction of a White House ballroom. The motion was filed two days after a gunman disrupted the White House Correspondents’ dinner.

President Trump nominated Blanche to serve as the permanent Attorney General last Monday. Blanche previously represented Trump in criminal cases and was confirmed as Deputy Attorney General last March. He has held the acting Attorney General position for more than eight weeks.
During his tenure, Blanche oversaw several actions including an indictment of former FBI Director James Comey and criminal charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center. He also directed an investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan. A nearly $1.8 billion settlement fund was created but later halted after objections from Republican lawmakers.
The Senate confirmed Blanche as Deputy Attorney General by a 52–46 vote last year. A federal judge in Tennessee dismissed one case, citing Blanche’s "vindictive motive." In a recent interview, Blanche discussed ongoing investigations involving former officials including James Clapper and former President Joe Biden. Four Republican votes against the nomination could prevent confirmation.
