Actor Defends State Fair Attendance After Photo

Dean Cain rejected claims that a photo he posted from the Great American State Fair showed low attendance, stating that thousands of people were present. Cain, known for his role as Clark Kent in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, posted the image on Saturday showing the view from atop the Ferris wheel.

The photo looks down over the National Mall toward the Washington Monument and shows white exhibition tents with scattered groups of people on a central lawn.

Attendance at the White House-backed festival marking America's 250th anniversary has drawn competing assessments since the event opened last week. Critics have cited photos and videos they say show sparse crowds, while supporters have described strong turnout.

A former member of Congress commented on Cain's photo, writing that it showed only six people. Cain replied that thousands were present and asked why the former lawmaker wished the event empty. Cain added that many attendees were not sitting on the grass because of the heat and that the image captured only a partial view.

Newsweek contacted the White House for comment outside normal working hours.
