An Air Canada flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to Halifax was diverted to Boston Logan Airport on Wednesday after the captain experienced a medical emergency. The twin-turboprop de Havilland Dash 8-400 departed Newark at 12:39 p.m. carrying 61 passengers.
The aircraft swerved repeatedly before a flight attendant removed the captain from the cockpit. Passengers helped restrain the captain for roughly 40 minutes while the first officer maintained control. The first officer took control and diverted the flight to Boston, where it landed safely.
The aircraft was towed to a gate after landing. Air Canada stated that the captain experienced a medical issue and was removed from the flight deck as per safety protocols.
The plane left Boston Logan at 7:30 p.m. and arrived in Halifax just before 9:30 p.m. No additional details about the captain's condition have been released.
