Fox NewsA 15-year-old Alabama boy with stage 4 osteosarcoma has begun experimental gene therapy after a secretly recorded Facebook video drew national attention. Fifteen-year-old Will Roberts recorded the video on April 22 while his family was seeking access to DeltaRex-G, an experimental tumor-targeted gene therapy.
The family said conventional treatments and multiple surgeries had not stopped the cancer's progression.
The video showed Will asking viewers to share the post so it would reach President Trump or Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The post raised more than $700,000 in GoFundMe donations and prompted responses from several public figures. On May 11, President Trump sent the Roberts family a video message expressing support.
Dr. Mehmet Oz and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. coordinated with California developers to expedite access under federal Right to Try protocols.
The family relocated to Santa Monica, California, in early May after Will was granted access to the treatment. He has now completed two weeks of the experimental therapy alongside a dual chemotherapy regimen. Will's father, Jason Roberts, told Fox News Digital that two doctors had said they had never seen a survivor at his son's stage.
The family attributed their progress to strong faith and the viral video's reach. Will said he experienced only mild side effects, including body aches, during the first two weeks of treatment.
