White House X account posts videos using Naruto and other anime imagery
About 20,000 people have signed a Change.org petition asking the White House to stop posting videos that use images from Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Naruto without permission. The petition was first submitted in March and revived after a weekend post showing President Trump as Naruto Uzumaki.
gamereactor.euorg titled Protect Japanese Manga has gathered roughly 20,000 signatures calling on the White House to cease using anime and manga images in official social media posts. The petition objects to videos posted by the official White House X account that include footage from Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh!
and Naruto. It was created in March after an earlier video combined U.S. military strikes on Iran with anime scenes.
Earlier complaints and responses The petition states that Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs contacted the U.S. embassy in Japan regarding the use of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Nintendo game imagery. The official Yu-Gi-Oh! account on X said at the time that the original creators had not given permission.
A weekend post on Truth Social depicting President Trump as the Naruto character Naruto Uzumaki prompted renewed circulation of the petition on Tuesday.
Publisher statement Shueisha, the publisher that serialized the Naruto manga from 1999 to 2014, said the copyright for the anime images rests with the film production committee. A spokesperson for the company stated that creator Masashi Kishimoto is not commenting on the matter. The Guardian has contacted the White House for comment on the petition.
