Allbirds changed its name to Smartbird and named Nadia Carlsten as its new chief executive on Wednesday.
Carlsten previously served as CEO at the Danish Center for AI Innovation. That company partners with Nvidia and operates a supercomputer named Gefion. She replaces Joe Vernachio, who had been CEO.
The company sold its footwear assets in March for $39 million. In April it rebranded to NewBird AI and announced plans to focus on AI compute infrastructure. Shares rose 34 percent on Wednesday following the latest announcement. "The shoemaker-turned-AI infrastructure firm on Wednesday named Nadia Carlsten as CEO and board member, replacing current CEO Joe Vernachio.
