Amateur Frazer Jones replaces Marcus Helligkilde in Open Championship Last-Chance Qualifier field

The 12-man Last-Chance Qualifier field for the 154th Open Championship was finalized Monday after Danish golfer Marcus Helligkilde withdrew. Yardbarker.com reported that his name is absent from the updated field released by the R&A. Helligkilde fell one shot short at Burnham & Berrow during Final Qualifying.

That result left the Monday event as his final route into the field at Royal Birkdale. Helligkilde underwent neck surgery in 2024 and remained out of competition for more than 1.5 years. He returned to the European Tour and missed the cut in his comeback event.

Amateur Frazer Jones, 20, replaced Helligkilde in the 12-man field. Jones is seeking a second straight Open appearance. The inaugural Last-Chance Qualifier determines the final place in the 156-man field.

Aldrich Potgieter, the 2025 Rocket Classic champion, is the highest-ranked player in the lineup. Matti Schmid, who has three prior Open appearances and finished T4 at this year’s PGA Championship, is also entered. DP World Tour players Adri Arnaus, Ángel Hidalgo, Joe Dean, and Andrew Wilson complete the field alongside two other amateurs.
