Amazon Ends Kindle Store Support for 13 Early Models After 14–18 Years

Thirteen early Kindle models lost the ability to connect to the Kindle Store on or before May 31, 2026. Amazon announced the change in April 2026. The affected devices can no longer buy, borrow, or download new books or other content.

The models span releases from 2007 through 2012. 9. Amazon said the devices had received support for at least 14 years and, in some cases, as long as 18 years.

Books already stored on the affected Kindles remain available. The devices continue to function for reading existing content in the same way they do now. Only new purchases and downloads are blocked.

Amazon is contacting users who are still actively using the listed models. The company is also offering promotions to assist with upgrades to newer devices. Amazon stated to ZDnet: “These models have been supported for at least 14 years -- some as long as 18 years — but technology has come a long way in that time, and these devices will no longer be supported moving forward.
