The Anaheim Ducks signed restricted free agent defenseman Pavel Mintyukov to a five-year contract extension worth $36 million on Sunday. The agreement carries a $7.2 million average annual value against the salary cap and extends through the 2030-31 NHL season. Mintyukov, 22, recorded 17 goals and 52 assists in 204 NHL games over his first three seasons.
He posted a career-high eight goals and 112 blocked shots in 73 games last season. The Ducks selected the Moscow native 10th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. The signing occurred while the Ducks address an offer sheet signed by center Leo Carlsson with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Carlsson agreed to a five-year, $90 million contract with an $18 million average annual value on July 3. The Ducks have until Friday, July 10, to match the offer or receive four first-round picks as compensation. Mintyukov's contract leaves the Ducks with $9,973,395 in cap space if they retain Carlsson.
Restricted free agent forward Cutter Gauthier led Anaheim in goals with 41 and points with 69 in 76 games last season and is expected to sign a contract exceeding $10 million annually.
