Andrew Gillum arrested in Alabama on drug charges

Andrew Gillum was arrested Thursday in Daphne, Alabama, and booked into Baldwin County jail on charges of possessing dangerous drugs, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, according to jail records. Gillum, 46, was released later that day. It was not immediately clear what specific dangerous drugs were involved or what circumstances led to the arrest.

Prior legal matters In 2020, police responded to a Miami Beach hotel room where Gillum was found inebriated. Officers reported empty beer bottles and prescription bottles in the room, but Gillum was not arrested or charged in that incident. He later entered a rehabilitation facility, citing depression after his 2018 election loss. In 2022, Gillum faced charges related to alleged misuse of campaign funds. A mistrial was declared on one conspiracy count and 17 fraud counts.
