Simons selected the 76ers over other teams, citing a strong roster fit, according to sources. His agent, Bill Duffy of WME Basketball, informed the 76ers of the decision Thursday afternoon.
Trade context The 76ers completed a trade Wednesday to acquire Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics. Philadelphia sent Paul George, two first-round picks in 2028 and 2031, and two second-round picks in 2028 and 2030 to Boston. Simons spent his first seven seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers before being traded to the Celtics in the Jrue Holiday deal.
He averaged 14.2 points and shot 39.5 percent from three-point range in 49 games as Boston's sixth man. The Celtics later traded Simons to Chicago for Nikola Vucevic. He appeared in six games for the Bulls before a left wrist injury ended his season.
Scoring boost Over the past five seasons, Simons has averaged 18.8 points per game and ranked sixth in three-pointers made off the bench last season. The 76ers ranked in the bottom three in reserve scoring and three-pointers made last season. Simons signed a four-year, $100 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2022.
He has averaged at least 17 points per game in four seasons, most recently in 2024-25.
