Apple Opens WWDC Keynote With Software Fixes Before AI Siri Update
Apple began its Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday by listing repairs to existing features before presenting an upgraded AI-powered Siri. The company said the changes address user complaints about design, search, file sharing, and Health app tracking.
Apple opened its Worldwide Developer Conference keynote on Monday by presenting fixes to existing software features before introducing an upgraded AI-powered Siri. Craig Federighi, senior vice president of Software Engineering, said the company is improving features users already rely on.
Shubham Kedia, director of human interface design, said some users want Liquid Glass more clear while others prefer a tinted appearance. Apple reported that iPhone and iPad apps now launch 30 percent faster. New photos appear up to 70 percent faster in the library, and AirDrop file transfers are up to 80 percent faster.
The company extended performance improvements to iPhone models back to the iPhone 11 released in 2019.
Apple rebuilt its search function to be more stable and comprehensive. New content is indexed almost immediately, and Mail received a new ranking system. iCloud shared photo albums can now accept contributions from Android and Windows users.
Apple said the upgraded Siri will launch in beta later this year, excluding the EU and China due to regulatory requirements. The company also announced AI tools for organizing web tabs, suggesting replies in Messages, and creating calendar events from natural language.
Image Playground received updates allowing generation of business flyers and edited photos. Apple will open image generation to developers through an API. Spatial Reframing lets users adjust photo composition after capture using on-device models.
