Apple Raises Prices on Five MacBook and iPad Models, Leaves iPhone Prices Unchanged

Apple raised the base prices of five MacBook and iPad models on Thursday. The MacBook Pro increased $300 to $1,999, the MacBook Air rose $200 to $1,299, and the MacBook Neo went up $100 to $699. The iPad Pro Wi-Fi model increased $200 to $1,199, while the iPad Air rose $150 to $749.
Apple attributed the adjustments to rising memory and storage chip costs driven by AI infrastructure demand. CEO Tim Cook stated that the price hikes were “unavoidable” amid soaring demand for memory chips. “We’re doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable,” Cook told The Wall Street Journal last week.
“There’s less supply at a time when consumers want devices and the memory guys are passing along huge price increases,” he added. Apple’s stock fell 6 percent on Thursday following the price changes. iPhone prices so far remain unchanged.
President Trump announced last week that Apple is partnering with Intel to design and produce chips in the U.S. The company has previously relied on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to produce its chips.
