Apple increased prices for the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro in Japan along with some Apple Watch and AirPods models. The changes took effect as the yen remained near its lowest levels in four decades.
The Japan TimesApple raised prices on its latest iPhones and select other products in Japan, The Japan Times reported. The entry-level iPhone 17 with 256 gigabytes of storage is now listed at ¥142,800 on the company’s Japanese website. That figure is roughly 10 percent above the prior price of ¥129,800.
The iPhone 17 Pro with the same storage capacity rose to ¥194,800 from ¥179,800, an 8.3 percent increase. Some Apple Watch and AirPods models also increased by as much as 10 percent. An Apple spokesperson in Japan declined to comment on the new pricing.
The yen has remained near its lowest level in four decades, a factor that has prompted many retailers of imported goods in Japan to adjust prices upward. Three weeks earlier Apple raised prices on Macs, iPads, home devices and the Vision Pro globally because of a prolonged memory chip shortage, though iPhones were not affected at the time.
There is no indication that Apple plans similar price increases in markets outside Japan.
