Apple unveils updated Siri with AI features at 2026 conference
Apple introduced a new version of Siri powered by artificial intelligence during its annual developer event. The update follows a delay announced in 2025 and a January agreement with Google to supply underlying models.
Apple presented a redesigned Siri with AI capabilities during its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday. The company said the new version, called Siri AI, will operate both inside its existing software and as a standalone app. Initial features will be available in English, with additional languages planned later.
"Today, we are introducing an entirely new version of Siri, Siri unlocked by Apple Intelligence," said Mike Rockwell, VP of engineering.
voice changes Demonstrations showed Siri locating past addresses, retrieving photos from specific places, and sharing images with groups without opening the Photos app. The assistant will also use personal context to complete tasks. Siri will receive a new voice designed to sound more expressive, with users able to adjust how expressive the voice is. Dictation accuracy is also set to improve.
Partnership and prior delays The underlying AI models stem from a January agreement with Google. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, described the arrangement as a "deep collaboration" that produced the next generation of Apple Intelligence models.
Apple had announced a major Siri overhaul in 2024 but postponed the release in March 2025 after development issues. The company later removed a 2024 advertisement that promoted the delayed features and agreed last month to pay $250 million to settle a class-action lawsuit over marketing claims.
