Arthur Fery Beats Ninth-Seeded Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-0 to Reach Wimbledon Semifinals

Arthur Fery defeated ninth-seeded Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-0 on Centre Court at Wimbledon on July 8. The 23-year-old British wild-card advanced to the semifinals after sealing the match with an ace and falling to the grass in celebration. Fery grew up about a mile from the All England Club and was a two-time All-American at Stanford, where he was named the 2023 Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year.

Queen Camilla watched from the royal box after meeting both players in a hallway moments before they walked onto the court. A champagne cork popped in the crowd late in the first set and briefly distracted Cobolli during his service motion. Fery has played 25 sets during the tournament, compared with 21 sets across his entire prior Grand Slam career.

He became the fifth British man to reach the Wimbledon semifinals in the Open era and the first unseeded British player, man or woman, to do so. Alexander Zverev defeated Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the other quarterfinal on July 8 and will face Fery on Friday. The remaining semifinal pits Novak Djokovic against Jannik Sinner.

"It gets better and better every match. I just can't believe it," Fery said.
