Athletics defeat Astros 5-0 behind two home runs and scoreless pitching
Two players hit home runs and a pitcher worked 6 1/3 scoreless innings as the Athletics defeated the Houston Astros 5-0 on Sunday. The win prevented a series sweep at Minute Maid Park.

Kurtz's 389-foot drive to right-center scored Alika Williams for a 2-0 lead. Rooker followed with an RBI double that scored Shea Langeliers, extending the advantage to 3-0.
Zack Gelof scored on a fielding error by shortstop Jeremy Peña in the fourth inning. Rooker's 397-foot solo home run to left field completed the scoring in the fifth.
Pitching line Gage Jump allowed three hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. The left-hander has surrendered one run in his last 13 1/3 innings. Houston starter Mike Burrows gave up five runs on eight hits in five innings. Burrows has allowed 17 home runs in 13 starts this season.
The Astros recorded four hits in their fifth shutout loss of the year. Second baseman Nick Allen exited in the third inning with left hamstring discomfort.
