McNeil did not secure the catch. His momentum carried him over the wall and his cleat struck an elderly fan in the face. The fan sustained small cuts and wiped blood from his face with a napkin. He remained in his seat for the rest of the game.
The Padres defeated the Athletics 2-0 and improved to 31-20. McNeil finished 0-for-3 with one walk. McNeil, 34, is in his first season with Oakland after the Mets traded him in December. 272 with 15 RBIs for a team that stands at 26-26.
