Athletics prospect Ryan Lasko underwent a spinal decompression and stabilization procedure Tuesday night after fracturing a C6-C7 vertebra in a collision with a teammate, ESPN reported. Lasko, 24, remained motionless on the field after he and Double-A Midland teammate Devin Taylor both dove for a flyball during a game in Frisco, Texas.
He was listed in stable condition Wednesday, according to the Athletics.
Lasko posted on social media Thursday that he faces a lengthy recovery. "I'd like to thank everyone for the well wishes & prayers," he wrote. "I truly feel so loved and appreciated by everyone that has reached out.
I am doing well and on the road to recovery. " Athletics player development director Ed Sprague traveled to Frisco after the incident, and counseling was offered to players. Lasko was selected by the Athletics in the second round of the 2023 amateur draft out of Rutgers.
