Attack on Karachi Rangers Compound Kills Three Soldiers and Four Assailants

At least three paramilitary soldiers and four armed assailants were killed when the assailants stormed a Rangers compound in Karachi's Gulistan-i-Jauhar area on Saturday evening. Four attackers also died during the assault, Sindh Inspector General Javed Alam Odho said. A suspected bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the entrance of the facility, sources told Al Jazeera.

Odho told local media that the attackers drove a vehicle into the main gate, though officials have not yet confirmed whether an explosion occurred. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered a detailed report after taking notice of the reported sound of an explosion and alleged firing. Security forces sealed off streets around the Mosamiat Chowrangi area while gunfire continued.

Special Security Unit commandos, the Anti-Terrorist Force and Rangers personnel carried out a clearance operation at the site. The Edhi Foundation said at least two people were wounded and taken to hospital. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident occurred as Pakistan faces continued armed violence targeting security forces in several parts of the country, Al Jazeera reported.
