Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan Sign Trade and Transport Agreements

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan signed agreements covering trade, customs, transport, energy, agriculture, banking, and labor migration during a June 22 ceremony in Baku. The documents include measures to streamline technical specifications for goods and vehicle movement and to harmonize customs statistics of mutual trade.
Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev said the agreements are intended to increase cargo flows across the Caspian Sea and to attract goods from third countries.
Aliyev stated that deeper coordination in transport and logistics will be a priority for both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The Middle Corridor is an emerging route designed to move goods from Central Asia to European markets.
Turkmenistan has historically maintained limited external trade beyond natural gas exports to China. Over the past year, Ashgabat has expressed interest in cautious economic opening and diversification. Turkmenistan's titular head of state, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, said the signed documents meet the long-term interests of both countries.
