A 30-year-old man was charged with attempted murder after stabbing another man in the head and neck during an attack in north Belfast. Police said the incident did not appear terror-related. The victim remains in serious condition with wounds to the eye, face, and back.
Video of the attack spread rapidly on social media. One post on X received more than two million views before age restrictions and a warning label limited further distribution. The footage was recorded on the anniversary of similar unrest in Northern Ireland last year.
Protesters gathered in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Southampton. Isolated incidents of property damage were also reported elsewhere in Northern Ireland. Local officials urged calm. Two members of Parliament shared a partly blurred image of the suspect and called for changes to immigration policy.
The attack follows the release of body-camera footage showing police detaining a man after he was stabbed in England. Officials in Northern Ireland and Britain have asked residents to avoid violence. " Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said a reasonable discussion of migration numbers is possible without targeting entire groups for the actions of individuals.
