Bianca Andreescu Advances to Wimbledon Main Draw With Qualifying Win

Bianca Andreescu advanced to the Wimbledon main draw with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory over Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the third round of qualifying on Thursday, Cbc reported. The match was played at the qualifying venue in Roehampton, roughly five kilometres northwest of the All England Club. The 26-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario, overcame a pair of breaks in the second set to secure the win.

Andreescu missed last year's tournament after a second-round qualifying loss to Carson Branstine. A former world No. 4 and 2019 U.S. Open champion, Andreescu has reached the Wimbledon main draw five times previously, with her best results a third-round finish in both 2023 and 2024, Cbc reported.

Toronto's Katherine Sebov lost her third-round qualifying match to Iryna Shymanovich 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Sebov, a last-minute addition to the draw, had rallied from 5-3 down in the deciding set during her second-round win over Noma Noha Akugue but could not reach the main draw for the first time. Andreescu is the lone Canadian to advance out of qualifying.
