Boston Celtics Trade Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and Draft Picks

The Boston Celtics agreed to trade Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers on July 1. The 76ers are sending Paul George along with two first-round picks in 2028 and 2031 and two second-round picks in 2028 and 2030 to complete the deal. The 2028 first-round pick could convert to a swap more favorable to Boston, according to ESPN.

The 2031 first-round pick is an unprotected Philadelphia selection. The 2028 second-round pick is the most favorable among the Warriors, Thunder and Bucks selections. The 2030 second-round pick is the most favorable among the Wizards, Trail Blazers and Suns selections.

Brown, who will turn 30 in October, averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game during the 2025-26 season while leading the Celtics to 56 wins. He finished sixth in MVP voting and earned second-team All-NBA honors. Brown is set to earn $57 million in 2026-27, $61 million in 2027-28 and $64.9 million in 2028-29.

He is eligible to sign a one-year contract extension beginning July 26. George, 36, averaged 16.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 78 games over two seasons with Philadelphia. He is owed $54.1 million for the 2026-27 season and holds a $56.6 million player option for 2027-28.

ESPN reported that George was suspended 25 games without pay in January 2026 for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy. Brown had been the subject of trade discussions in recent weeks. The Celtics explored sending him and two unprotected first-round picks to the Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo before Milwaukee agreed to a deal with Miami instead.

Brown never requested a trade out of Boston, sources told ESPN.
