Braves Pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach Continues Elbow Recovery
Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach is progressing through a gradual throwing program after elbow surgery. Officials said the process will require multiple stages before any return this season is considered.
yardbarker.comAtlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach is working through a structured throwing progression after undergoing elbow surgery before the 2026 season. He has advanced to throwing distances of 75 feet and is expected to continue increasing distance to 120 feet before bullpen sessions are introduced.
Officials stated that live batting practice and a potential rehab assignment would follow only after those steps are completed.
Schwellenbach suffered a minor elbow fracture late in the 2025 season and required additional surgery before spring training in 2026. The current program is described as lengthy, with any setback likely to end his chances of pitching this year. Two other Braves pitchers are further along in their returns.
One began a rehab assignment earlier this week, while another is completing high-intensity bullpen sessions ahead of his own assignment.
