Braves Shut Down Strider Four Weeks for Elbow Inflammation
Atlanta placed right-hander Spencer Strider on the injured list after an MRI showed elbow inflammation. Catcher Drake Baldwin returned from his own oblique injury the same day.
Usa TodayThe Atlanta Braves shut down right-hander Spencer Strider for four weeks due to inflammation in his right elbow, the team announced Monday. Strider had an MRI and was examined by Keith Meister on Monday. He had been placed on the injured list Saturday after his velocity dropped during Friday's start.
Strider was pulled from that game after issuing a six-pitch walk to MJ Melendez leading off the fourth inning. His fastball had reached 96 mph earlier but fell to 88 mph on the walk. He allowed six hits and seven earned runs in three innings, including three home runs and a grand slam to Bo Bichette.
31 ERA in eight starts this season. He missed the first 34 games recovering from a strained left oblique. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019 and had the UCL in his right elbow repaired with an internal brace in April 2024.
Strider will undergo a follow-up MRI after four weeks of rest. If the scan is clear, he will begin throwing again. Catcher Drake Baldwin was activated off the injured list Monday. Baldwin had been sidelined since May 19 with a strained right oblique.
He homered in his first rehab game for Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. 932 OPS this season. The Braves optioned catcher Austin Wynns to Triple-A Gwinnett.
